Following the tragic death of a young student who was injured by the explosion of a soft drink bottle at a private school in Karachi.
The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh (DIRPIS) has announced a ban on the sale of Limca and soda drinks in glass bottles in privately-managed schools. The ban has been imposed in six divisions of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas, Benazirabad, and Larkana.
However, soft drinks in plastic bottles or cans may still be sold in schools. The principal and administrators of all privately-managed schools have been directed to ensure that no Limca/Soda drinks in glass bottles are allowed to keep/sell in school premises to safeguard children and avoid unfortunate incidents in the future.
The young student, Huzaifa, a fifth-grader, was injured at a school in Malir’s Model Colony area and later died while receiving treatment at the ICU of Civil Hospital.
